Bryony Knox

Bryony loves the maleability and colours of metal and over the past 20 years has produced work ranging from kinetic gates and steel sculptures to silver boxes and vases. Her work is inspired by birds and animals with elements of movement, humour and storytelling. She trained at Glasgow School of Art and past commissions include objects for J K Rowling & HRH Princess Anne.

Bryony is a full time silversmith and also teaches her specialist technique of Chasing & Repousse as a visiting Lecturer at Universities and West Dean College. This wide range of knowledge enables Bryony to teach a varied selection of creative metalwork courses from her colourful studio at Coburg House in Leith.

For absolute beginners Bryony offers a one day course, teaching basic metalwork skills whilst making a humerous steel and brass Mouse, Hare or Daschund, which the student can take home with them at the end of the day.

For a more in-depth course Bryony runs a weekend Masterclass on her specialist silversmithing technique ~ the ancient art of Repousse and Chasing. By using pine pitch and a myriad of small steel punches the student learns to emboss and form the mailable metal as well as making their own tools.

In 2018 Bryony further explored these and other techniques whilst living as a Victorian silversmith and blacksmith for a month for BBC 2's 'Victorian House of Arts & Crafts'. Due to the interest in her work on this programme, she now runs a 5 day course making an Arts & Crafts Copper Clock.
