Helen Miles Mosaics
Helen Miles is a mosaic artist making bespoke mosaics for interior and exterior spaces.
Helen trained in the art of mosaic making with master crafts people in Greece and makes finely executed pieces using a variety of materials from marble and stone to traditional Italian smalti, glass, unglazed ceramic and found objects.
Each mosaic is designed and made according to the requirements of the client and to the place where the mosaic will be hung or installed. Mosaics bring interest and colour to a variety of settings, including floors, walls and gardens.
Helen creates her mosaics from her central Edinburgh studio and is an experienced mosaic teacher who brings together students with diverse abilities and inspires enthusiasm in the process and pride in the results. She runs day-long introduction to mosaics workshops and weekend courses in Edinburgh as well as week-long residential courses in Pelion, Greece.
Helen has a particular interest in Roman mosaics and is keen for her students to learn the ancient principles and techniques of mosaic making so that they know the rules but also encourages participants to experiment and have fun with the mosaic process.
