Mairi Brown

After graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles, Galashiels in 1990 with a degree in printed textile design, Mairi established her studio and business in Edinburgh.

Mairi incorporates free motion embroidery into her work -this is the technique of drawing freehand with the sewing machine to illustrate an image or design- and specialises in historic stay and corsetry based garments.

Mairi has amassed a wide knowledge of garment construction and sewing techniques which she greatly enjoy passing on through teaching at a range of levels. She offers these specialised classes from her new studio in the Drill Hall. She covers general dressmaking, metric pattern cutting (making the garment patterns to your own measurements), free motion embroidery and historic based stays and corsetry.
