Weekend Weave Workshop - 2 Day Workshop

  • Coburg House Art Studios (Studio 7) 15 Coburg Street Edinburgh, Scotland, EH6 6ET United Kingdom (map)

These workshops suit complete beginners and also act as refresher classes for those who may need reminding of various techniques and procedures in prepping/handling a warp and dressing a table loom.

Classes focus on weaving a fabric length, this can be a finished wearable scarf piece or a series of samples where you explore differing weaving structures using a common warp. Students will be led through the weaving process; with yarn types being discussed from a choice of merino, shetland and cheviot, as well as drape/handle being explored through a series of provided samples. The warping process will be completed on a warping mill, with instructions given on how to dress a 4-shaft Ashford table loom, all with the guidance of James.

Once the loom has been dressed, and after consultation with James, you can base your finished piece on a range of samples and weave notes supplied. Warp preparation and dressing normally takes a day with the aim to get you weaving from 11.00 ish on the second day of the workshop.

Ranging from straight draft for beginners, pointed draft for intermediate and overshot constructions for the more advanced or confident students, all with the help and guidance of your tutor James Donald. Discounts of 10% will be given to those who book 3 or more weekend workshops to explore the design potential of these differing drafts.

This workshop costs £210 per person. This includes all materials, use of equipment and light refreshments.

Please be aware, for those who are unable to take away the looms to complete their projects, with advanced notification and for an additional payment of £60 students can stay on the following Monday to bring their pieces to completion.

Payment in full secures a place on the workshop.
