Draw design weave for single cloth.

  • PickOne Coburg House Art Studios Leith United Kingdom (map)

Where do weavers get their ideas from?

This class has been designed for those who wish to give their woven work context from self generated imagery, specifically looking at how one translates the drawn mark into a woven fabric.

This 5 day workshop will begin by exploring mark making/drawing through building up surfaces with combinations of colour, utilising a variety of techniques including wax resist and traditional mark making to produce individual collections of papers, which will then be a source of inspiration to design and produce ones own handwoven fabric, where we will look at proportion as well as structure before weaving your finished piece on a 16 shaft Ashford table loom, which will allow for greater design possibilities.

  • Day one - Mark making + design development.

  • Day two - Design development /constructing your warp.

  • Day three - Warp preparation/dressing the loom.

  • Day four - Weaving your cloth

  • Day five - Weaving your cloth

This will suit complete beginners as well as those who have woven before and have an interest in translating ideas from the paper to cloth. All materials and equipment are provided as part of the fee.

Maximum number of students 3 with 2 students required to make the class run.
