Jewellery Design One Year Foundation Course

Building on traditional silversmithing and design work, this part-time course at Silverhub Jewellery School will allow students to further develop their jewellery design practice. Through the creation of a completed portfolio of work, students will gain the skills required to apply for Higher Education or to work independently as a contemporary designer.

By balancing self-directed work with structured learning from practicing designers, students will be able to hone their drawing, design and crafting skills. The exploration of a single theme offers the opportunity to fully research and develop design ideas, as well as undertake material experiments and more advanced skill-based projects.

Throughout each block, students will have the experience of working in a creative studio environment - in addition to attending lectures, technical demonstrations and practice presentations from invited artists and makers. Students will also receive regular guidance and support in the form of one-to-one tutorials and group crits.

At SilverHub Jewellery School and Studios artistic and design progression is paramount. Our one year course will enable students to gain an understanding of how to develop as a designer, maker and artist. Through our lecture programme, students will meet, discuss and learn from practicing designers and artist, expanding on their professional networks and creating potential for future opportunities. This is also supported during our visit to Schmuck -the international contemporary art jewellery expo in  Munich, Germany- where students can create and develop their European relationships and networks.

Upon completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in the annual student exhibition.

A minimum of one year of experience at SilverHub Jewellery School (or a similar institution) is required to apply for this course. Applications open in November 2020.
